Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

Το σεμινάριο προσφέρει μια εις βάθος διερεύνηση της ανθρωπολογίας των καταστροφών, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στο πώς οι φυσικές καταστροφές βιώνονται, ερμηνεύονται και διαχειρίζονται κυρίως από περιθωριοποιημένες κοινότητες, αυτόχθονες πληθυσμούς και κοινωνίες του Παγκόσμιου Νότου. Αντί να αντιμετωπίζονται ως καθαρά φυσικά ή τεχνικά γεγονότα, οι καταστροφές εξετάζονται ως βαθιά κοινωνικά και πολιτισμικά φαινόμενα—διαμορφωμένα από ιστορικές ανισότητες, σχέσεις εξουσίας και κοσμοαντιλήψεις.

     Κατά τη διάρκεια των μαθημάτων, οι φοιτήτριες/τές θα ασχοληθούν με θεμελιώδεις θεωρίες και σύγχρονες μελέτες περίπτωσης για να αναλύσουν πώς διαφορετικές κοινωνίες αντιλαμβάνονται τον κίνδυνο, αποδίδουν νόημα στην καταστροφή και αντιδρούν σε καταστάσεις κρίσης και αποκατάστασης. Θα τεθούν υπό αμφισβήτηση οι κυρίαρχες αφηγήσεις για την ευαλωτότητα και την ανθεκτικότητα, ενώ θα αναδειχθεί πώς οι κοινωνικές ανισότητες που σχετίζονται με την καταγωγή, την ταυτότητα, την κοινωνική τάξη, το φύλο και τις αποικιοκρατικές και νεο-αποικιακές πολιτικές επηρεάζουν την εμπειρία και την ερμηνεία της καταστροφής.

      Ιδιαίτερη σημασία θα δοθεί στην κατανόηση των καταστροφών στο πλαίσιο του Ανθρωποκαίνου, της σύγχρονης γεωλογικής εποχής που χαρακτηρίζεται από τη δραστική ανθρώπινη επίδραση στα οικοσυστήματα και το παγκόσμιο κλίμα. Το μάθημα θα εξετάσει πώς οι επιπτώσεις της κλιματικής κρίσης και της περιβαλλοντικής υποβάθμισης διαπλέκονται με κοινωνικά και πολιτικά συμφραζόμενα και πώς γίνονται αντιληπτές μέσα από διαφορετικά πολιτισμικά πρίσματα. Παράλληλα, θα διερευνηθούν οι σχέσεις ανθρώπων με μη ανθρώπινα όντα, όπως τα ζώα, τα πνεύματα, τα τοπία και άλλες μορφές ζωής, που εμπλέκονται ενεργά στην εμπειρία και την ερμηνεία της καταστροφής σε πολλά πολιτισμικά πλαίσια.

Κύρια θέματα του μαθήματος περιλαμβάνουν την περιβαλλοντική δικαιοσύνη, τη διακυβέρνηση των καταστροφών, τα τοπικά συστήματα γνώσης και την αποκατάσταση μετά από κρίσεις. Μέσω μελέτης κειμένων, εισηγήσεων, παρουσιάσεων των φοιτητριών/ τών και συζητήσεων στο σεμινάριο, το μάθημα ενθαρρύνει τον κριτικό στοχασμό σχετικά με το πώς οι ανθρωπολογικές προσεγγίσεις μπορούν να συμβάλουν σε πιο δίκαιες και πολιτισμικά ευαίσθητες στρατηγικές αντιμετώπισης καταστροφών.

Η αξιολόγηση του μαθήματος βασίζεται σε :

Α) Τελική γραπτή εργασία (70%):
Ατομική εργασία που θα βασίζεται σε βιβλιογραφική ανάλυση ή/και μελέτη περίπτωσης σχετικής με τα θέματα του μαθήματος.

Β) Παρουσιάσεις και ενεργή συμμετοχή (30%):
Αξιολόγηση των παρουσιάσεων κειμένων κατά τη διάρκεια των μαθημάτων, της συμβολής στη συζήτηση, και της ενεργής παρακολούθησης.
