The course will explore the expanding borders of visuality in contemporary postmodern post-humanistic era, focusing on challenges posed by technologies of falsification as contesting visual ‘truthfulness.’ It will also explore the uses and ethics of AI-generated imagery, its biases and potential impact upon methodologies on researching the ‘visual.’ It will also discuss issues related to the philosophy of images in the yet uncharted territory of AI images.

Students should be willing and ready to explore those issues for themselves, use AI and machine learning technologies, and work on projects. Students are encouraged to use AI technologies in their projects and essay, as long as they document their use, explain the choices made, thoroughly describe the prompts, and adopt a critical perspective of the outcome.
