Law of International Organizations

(120315) -  Διδάσκων ΕΣΠΑ Σ.-Ε. Πανταζόπουλος

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the establishment, functioning, and legal framework of international organizations (IOs). It begins by examining their creation through constituent treaties and the ways in which such organizations may be dissolved. Students will explore the legal personality of IOs, including their treaty-making capacity, privileges and immunities, and forms of representation at both the domestic and international levels.

The course also analyzes institutional structures and internal functioning, covering categories of membership, admission and withdrawal, and the suspension of members’ rights. Key topics include decision-making and voting procedures, the legal nature of acts adopted by IOs, and their international responsibility. Through selected case studies, students will engage with practical challenges of global governance and diplomacy, drawing on examples from international organizations (such as the UN and NATO) and regional organizations (such as the Council of Europe, ECOWAS, the African Union, and others).
