Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

Το μάθημα περιλαμβάνει τις εξής θεματικές:
1. Θεωρίες περί φασισμού. Ζητήματα ιστοριογραφίας του φασισμού.
2. Ιστορία του φασισμού και του ναζισμού (μεσοπόλεμος και Β’Παγκ.Πόλεμος). Η συγκυρία.
3. Η διάσταση των μακροχρόνιων συνθηκών και οι ρίζες της ναζιστικής βίας.
3. Περί των ιδεολογικών καταβολών και της ιδεολογίας του φασισμού-ναζισμού.
4. Διανοούμενοι υπέρ ή κατά του καθεστώτος. Συνεργασία και αντιφασισμός.
5. Ολοκληρωτικός χαρακτήρας του ναζιστικού κράτους και μηχανισμοί άσκησης της εξουσίας.
6. Φυλετική ιδεολογία, νομοθετικό πλαίσιο και διώξεις εναντίον των Εβραίων. Η εξόντωση των Εβραίων της Ευρώπης και η μνήμη τής Shoah.
7. Τα κίνητρα που οδήγησαν τους ανθρώπους ως άτομα και συλλογικότητες στην συμπόρευση με τους φασίστες και τους Ναζί και το ζήτημα της εμπλοκής των κοινωνιών.

110382 FASCISM, NAZISM: THEORETICAL APPROACHES AND HISTORIOGRAPHICAL ISSUES

This course explores fascism as a genus of political ideology and a mass movement, a culture founded on mystical thought and a civil ethic linked to a national community with an emphasis on youth and the war experience. Historical circumstances from the aftermath of the Great War till the end of World War II which defined its ‘conjunctural specificity’ are studied. The course also offers an understanding of racial politics of the Nazis examining at the same time the various interpretations of fascist phenomenon and historiographical issues, such as the involvement of German or other European societies in the persecution of Jews.  Finally, the political significance of the Shoah and its representations in the Cold War era are also investigated.

 

The Erasmus students would be asked in an oral examination about the theoretical approaches which propose a fascist minimum or the thesis that fascism should be seen as a specific national phenomenon. They would be asked about the impact of World War I, squadrismo and the establishment of the fascist regime in Italy, its ideology, its politics and its characteristics, as well as its fall; the Weimar republic, nazism as a movement and the consolidation of the Nazi regime, elections and plebiscites, World War II, the arts, economy and concentration camps; austro-fascists, the Iberian family of authoritarians and other countries in central and southern Europe.

The date of the oral exam will be announced in early June.
